Wearable technology certainly made a splash. Several industries such as healthcare, sport and fitness, gaming, entertainment and even fashion were show casing next-generation concepts to see what could shape into “real” products. This market is estimated to explode over the next several years and potentially be worth billion Dollars.

We are already dependent on wireless devices from computers wireless keyboard to listening to music on wireless headsets. Just look around yourself you definitely found something that is based on wireless technology.

Now let understand how these popular wireless technologies like Bluetooth and Wifi  works.

Bluetooth

Originally Bluetooth technology was designed to work in scatter-net and mesh network. Bluetooth applications turned out to be more simplistic, requiring in majority of use cases communication between a host (smartphone) working as a server, and several (up to seven) slave devices (clients). 

Like cell phones, routers etc use radio frequency (RF) energy—a form of electromagnetic radiation—to bring wireless internet to your computer, TV, and other devices. Bluetooth devices also rely on RF signals to transfer data or for communication in simple terms. Smartwatches use RF to connect to your phone. And any WiFi-connected smart devices in your home also receive and transmit data using this type of energy. Do you need to worry about any of that?

While the ‘оffісіаl’ wоrd is thаt radiation from Bluеtооth Hеаdѕеtѕ аnd оthеr Bluetooth Dеvісеѕ іѕ tоо low to be considered dаngеrоuѕ tо humans.

While іt is truе that the lеvеlѕ of rаdіаtіоn emitted bу Bluеtооth Hеаdѕеtѕ аnd Dеvісеѕ іѕ bеlоw what the сurrеnt regulatory аgеnсіеѕ (SAR – Specific Absorption Rate ) соnѕіdеr ‘ѕаfе’.

Now every smartphone has a SAR value which is regulated under government policy and every manufacturer should have that safety level test certificate before going into the market.

While if you worried about using Bluetooth devices then you should probably avoid your cellphones first. Radiation order is Bluetooth(less radiations) then WiFi(more than Bluetooth less than smartphones) and then Smartphones if you consider.

Steps to Consider

Although any potential harm from exposure to radiation from devices is far from certain, if you want to limit your exposure,  I would sujjest you some steps.

If you are concerned about the RF signals and EMF from your cell phone or WiFi or Bluetooth devices, here are some ways you can limit your exposure:

When using your phone or laptop, consider keeping it away from your head and body. That is particularly true in areas where the cellular signal from towers is weak—when your phone has only one bar, for example—because phones may increase their power then to compensate. To do that, you could try texting or video-calling when possible, using the speaker phone on your device or a wired or wireless Bluetooth headset carrying your phone in a bag instead of stowing it in your pocket, and not resting your tablet/laptop on your body for a long period of time. When you go to bed, consider storing your phone away from where you sleep, switch it to airplane mode, or turn it off entirely.

And when considering whether to use a smartwatch or other wearable device, some of which now connect through cellular signals, recognize that the device will be close to your body for extended periods, which in theory could increase the risks.

If you’re concerned about exposure from your wireless internet connection, you could consider using a wired connection when possible, positioning your router away from rooms where you spend the most time, and turning it off at night.
